As far as I can see, all releases have detailed release notes.

This is the feed that I am using. But the problem is that items are added here with no release notes. Sometimes the notes are not added for many days, so I have to fall back to polling. Which is the whole thing I am trying to avoid. I can't afford to poll the release notes of every project I use manually.

Your feed is picking up the tag for the upcoming release, nothing we can do about that.

Is it possible to defer creating the tag until the release is published? Or to have a different feed for release notes that is only published when the release is actually ready (and the release notes exist)?

Because I am also using the GitHub releases feed but it is a really bad experience.

1. I get a notification about a release, it is blank other than "chore: version v1.143.0"
2. I keep this notification unread, checking back on it occasionally to see if the release notes have been added.
   • Some feed readers will update the item if the feed changes, but most don't, they just keep the snapshot when originally published.
3. Eventually they are published or I just give up and miss the release notes.
   • Some releases like v1.141.0 never get release notes. So you have to give up at some point.

I think it is obvious this isn't a great experience. I think the core of this request is about getting updates when they are available. Right now updates are being delivered when they are not actionable, and users have to fall back to polling which really sucks. This is extra painful because at this phase of development there are frequently breaking changes so I need to be ready to stop app auto-updates when the release is published or manually control updates and know when to check for them. So I am somewhat required to do this manual tedious polling.

So if the auto-create tag and add release notes later is the workflow that works for development that is fine. But then can some other notification channel be provided that does fill the users use case? For example a changelog feed on the website that is updated when the notes are actually available?

As it is right now there is no convenient way to get release notifications and notes. I think that is something that would be very valuable to improve. For some projects the GitHub releases feed does work well, but if that isn't the case here that is fine. But it would be great to provide something for users.
