Application rejected constantly for trans student

Hello,

I'm encountering a very frustrating issue with my application. My school allows me to enrol with my gender and preferred name.

I am, however, still in the process of formalising legal documents, as bureaucracy is slow as ever and I won't get any updated ID before January 2026.

This means that my legal application requires my legal, alas deadname, yet provides proof of enrolment in my preferred name.

This is, of course, an issue because there are discrepancies that automatically discard my application for GitHub education.

How do I prove to these checks that I am a real student, other than a real person, when there isn't even an option to provide context that I am trans and I am physically unable to give univocal information on my identity?

We need LFS enabled for our project, but I cannot make it work and this is hindering our class project.

Here’s what you can do:

Contact GitHub Education Support Directly:
Go to GitHub Education Support.
In your message, explain:

You are a trans student.
Your university recognizes your preferred name, but your legal documents (and thus your proof of enrolment) do not match yet.
You’re facing automatic rejection due to this name discrepancy.
You need Git LFS enabled for a class project and the Education Pack is required.
Attach Both Proofs if Possible:
Upload any documents you have showing both your preferred name and your legal name (even if they are in separate documents), plus a brief written explanation. If your school can provide a letter or email acknowledging both names, include that as well.

Ask for a Human Review:
Request that a support agent review your application manually, given the context they can often make exceptions or manually override automated checks in cases like yours.

Ask Your School for Help:
If possible, ask your school’s administration or student services to provide a letter explaining your situation (that you are the same person, your preferred and legal names, and your enrollment status).

Hi @addamsies,

To prove your current student status, you must submit a dated academic proof with your full name and school's name on it. Then you have to fill in your billing info and GitHub profile with your full name exactly as it appears on your academic transcript.

Given your particular circumstance, I recommend that you contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and explain your situation thoroughly.
