Issue Verifying Student Status

Hi everyone,

I am a student from Peru and currently hold a GitHub Student account. However, I am experiencing difficulties completing the verification process. The platform no longer allows me to upload a document file as proof of enrollment and instead requires me to take a live picture using the front camera of my mobile device.

Unfortunately, the quality of my device’s front camera does not provide a clear image of my student document, which may affect the verification process.

I kindly request an alternative way to submit my proof of enrollment (for example, by uploading the file directly from my computer or by verifying through my institutional email), so I can successfully complete the verification.

Hey 👋 I know waiting on verification can be frustrating. A couple of things you can try while it’s still under review:

Check your docs – Make sure the document you uploaded (student ID, admission letter, or proof of enrollment) is clear, not expired, and has your full name + dates visible.

Use your school email – If possible, sign up with or link your official university email address (like @edu or @ac.in). That usually speeds up the review.

Wait times vary – GitHub Education mentions it can take a couple of weeks sometimes, especially if many applications are in queue.

If stuck too long – You can open a support ticket through GitHub Education support
with your application reference.

👉 From my side, I’d recommend giving it a bit more time, since you’re already at the 10-day mark. But if it crosses 2 weeks, definitely contact support with your docs attached.

It looks like GitHub Education is now requiring live photo verification for some applicants (as shown in your second screenshot, This can be tough if your device’s front camera doesn’t capture clear images of your student ID.

Here’s what you can try:

Institutional Email:
it shows that you’ve already verified your school email (ending in @cibertec.edu.pe), which is usually enough for approval. If the system is still asking for a live photo, it might be due to additional verification checks.

Alternative Device:
If possible, try to use another device (phone/tablet/laptop) with a better front camera just for the verification step. Sometimes borrowing a friend’s device for a few minutes can help.

Contact GitHub Education Support:
Since you have a valid school email, you can explain your situation to GitHub Education Support. Let them know that your device camera isn’t providing a clear image and ask if they can manually review a file upload or accept your email verification as proof. Attach your screenshots to show the problem they’re very helpful.

Double-Check Lighting:
If you have to use your current device, try to improve lighting or place your document on a flat, dark surface to help your camera capture a clearer image.

Unfortunately, the upload option is not always available, in which case you'll need to take a photo with your device's camera, as indicated in the Student Developer Pack Application FAQs:

Your first and last name, complete school name, and a date demonstrating current academic affiliation must appear in your document.
Make sure the image is clear and easy to read; if it looks blurry, please take a new photo. 👈

If you're having troubles with the application, contact support by opening a ticket here, select "Other" and explain your problem.
