I want to add additional email address for my repo and
When I try to add additional email address under Settings > Profile
Access > Email and when add complete email address it says

Error adding [email protected]: email is already in use

Note: I have 2 email address added already, this is 3rdone

Hi @recursivezero ,

It's possible that the email address you are trying to add is already connected to another GitHub account you own, which would explain the “email address is already in use” error.

I got the same problem. I tried to add an email but that email was connected to another account. Once I deleted it, then I was able to add it.

I want to add my personal email as a backup email, but my personal email belongs to my personal GitHub.

Same issue. Why should I care that I have another, non-work github account associated with that email? If it won't allow me to use it as a backup, at least make it stop bugging me about setting a backup.

This applies to me. It's completely irrelevant that I use my personal email address for another github account. I should still be able to use it as a backup address.

This is a bug, not a feature.

Same issue here, the platform nags me incessantly about only having a single verified email address for my work account but won't let me add the address I need to use as a backup address as it's associated with my personal account.

I had the same issue. I had accounts for work that the company used that were not managed in the enterprise and a private.
When I retire, I'd tried to merge contribution logs into a private account (my company's account is already deleted).

I turned off Keep my email address private in private account and tried to add another email address that I used companies account and it worked.

And please note that when you want to merge contribution log, please read this article and turn off Keep my email address private too for the account from which you are merging. If you forgot it, you did not merge contribution logs 😢

Yes I have a personal GitHub acct using my personal email. Why should that not be allowed as second email on my work acct? It is already verified and I access it daily.

Apparently the solution is for me to create a random email account that I won't use for anything just for a back up email? Doesn't seem like a good back up to have it go to an account I don't use and will forget about.

I'm puzzled by this. I cannot see my primary email, if I log in and go to emails, i can see only another email I added. If I try to add that email, it tells me it's in use. So I go and password reset that email (thinking I must have set up another account), but when I do that I end up logged into the same account that does not show the email.

this may be beacuse your email is alredy liked to another account to check the username of that account simply forget the password

My last github account is suspended without any reason, and there's no response from the support.
I want to add that account's email to another account, but occurred the above issues.
So I want to recover or delete last account.
Is there any effective way to solve this issue?

This is a terribly annoying bug, but a way around it, is to remember that gmail email addresses don't care about periods in your email. So if you signed up with [email protected], you can also use [email protected] and get emails. You could then use [email protected], [email protected], etc. if you need several backup emails for your many GitHub accounts. Only caveat I may see, is to write down or remember how you specified the email dress exactly, in case GitHub requires the exact recovery email address.
